Guidelines for reviewers
What GJBE asks of reviewers, and the criteria used to evaluate submissions.
Reviewer responsibilities
GJBE relies on qualified reviewers to evaluate the originality, rigor, and relevance of every submission. Reviewers are asked to:
- Evaluate manuscripts objectively and provide constructive, specific feedback.
- Assess originality, methodological soundness, and clarity of presentation.
- Disclose any conflicts of interest before accepting a review invitation.
- Maintain confidentiality of the manuscript and review process throughout and after the review.
- Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe, or notify the editorial office promptly if an extension is needed.
Review criteria
- Originality: Does the manuscript present new data, methods, or interpretation?
- Scientific rigor: Are the methods, statistics, and data analysis appropriate and clearly described?
- Clarity: Is the manuscript well organized and clearly written?
- Relevance: Does the work fit within the journal's aims and scope?
- Ethics: Are ethical approvals, consents, and conflict-of-interest statements present where required?
Reviewers submit one of the following recommendations: accept, minor revision, major revision, resubmit for review, or reject. See the full peer review policy for the complete workflow.
